It is a city located in the Rif Mountains in the north-west part of Morocco. It is known for the spectacular blue buildings of different shades of its old town, as well as for its cobbled and sloping alleyways, full of looms and leather goods. In the shaded main square, Uta el Hammam, are the red walls of the Casba, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon with ethnographic exhibitions and works of art. The octagonal alminar of the Great Mosque rises near there.
